Vivli collaborates with Microsoft and BlueMetal on a new global clinical trial data platform to accelerate scientific discoveries for human health

Cambridge, Mass. –July 12, 2017– Vivli, a Massachusetts-based nonprofit, has collaborated with BlueMetal to build a first-of-its-kind data sharing platform for clinical trial research, powered by Microsoft Azure. The innovative platform, which will include a data repository, analysis tools and a dynamic search engine, will provide transparency and access to clinical research from around the globe, break out data from existing silos, and accelerate scientific discovery to improve human health.

Vivli, Microsoft and BlueMetal will focus on addressing the specific data sharing challenges faced by clinical researchers worldwide. The clinical research and pharmaceutical markets demand a one-stop-shop platform to aggregate research studies, provide an easy-to-use search interface, and offer tools for select data analysis. Using this platform, public and private institutions worldwide will be able to optimize time, effort and financial resources spent on research, as well as unearth new insights that will lead to critical discoveries.

“Vivli is delighted to partner with Microsoft and BlueMetal to bring this solution to the community,” said Dr. Rebecca Li, Vivli Co-Founder. “Our collaboration with Microsoft and BlueMetal brings together long-standing leaders in technology and digital health to transform how clinical trial data is mined to improve human health. Vivli will continue to work closely with our major private and public stakeholders throughout the development process as the platform transitions quickly from the development stage to a formal launch in 2018.”

The combined strength of the three companies will transform how researchers approach analysis of clinical trial datasets.

“Developing effective strategies and platforms for pooling and sharing clinical data is a long-term dream for academia, healthcare organizations, and the pharmaceutical industry,” said Dr. Kenji Takeda, director, Microsoft Research. “Microsoft is delighted to help Vivli be successful, and look forward to bringing our expertise in artificial intelligence as well as the global scale, flexibility and advanced security capabilities of Microsoft Azure to this initiative. The prospect of working together is an exciting opportunity to help deliver global impact through Vivli and the future of research in healthcare.”

Maintaining security and privacy of data was paramount for Vivli’s decision to choose Microsoft Azure, the company’s cloud computing platform. Azure’s global scale, flexibility and $1B USD investment in security per year will help ensure that data shared on the Vivli platform is secure.

“BlueMetal specializes in digitally transforming healthcare and life science companies into continuously learning health systems, and our strategic partnership with Vivli and Microsoft will showcase a multitude of industry firsts,” said David Le Penske, vice president of Health & Life Sciences at BlueMetal, an Insight Company. “The Vivli platform will successfully tackle complexities such as global identity and regulatory compliance, provide robust elastic search to easily group like data across multitudes of study data sets, house the most powerful analytics tools, and offer a modern and intuitive user experience to more rapidly accelerate and unlock a multitude of potential discoveries and benefits in global health.”
